“What was any art but a mould in which to imprison for a moment the shining elusive element which is life itself — life hurrying past us and running away, too strong to stop, too sweet to lose.”

Gina Niebergall was born and raised in Ventura, California and has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. It was natural for her, when it came time to pursue her higher education, to make art her main focus in college.
She graduated in 1982 from UC Santa Barbara, College of Creative Studies where she received a bachelor's degree in Studio Art. "I work primarily in oils. When painting en plein air or in the studio, I don’t wish to duplicate. Rather, I try to paint the feeling of being in that place. I strive for a painterly style where the viewer can see my gestures and brushwork. Colors and their relationships with one another are my passion. As a fourth generation Californian, I have always loved the unique qualities of the California landscape: from ocean to oaks, to desert and farmland, and hidden gems that are often overlooked in the bustle of daily life. There's been so much land development and change, I feel compelled to capture my impressions on canvas." |
